My sweet, bold-hearted boy Ezra has been home all week with a horrible hacking cough that’s been making it’s nasty rounds through our family. Mostly he’s been feeling bad enough to just need to lie down and rest, (unusual for his fiercely physical self) but today I knew his strength was returning when he insisted we WRESTLE. So I got down on the mat with him and we started playing in that primal, virile way he so loves… roaring and such. Then I had him flying up on the soles of my feet, and then carefully he shifted to sitting up there, his butt on my feet, his arms and fingers spread wide, his face beaming, as he worked to find his center, practicing balance. Then adorably, he said: “This reminds me of when before I was your baby I used to be a knight, flying through the heavens.” I’m always delighted when he speaks of this memory, and so I encouraged him to say more: “What would you do as a knight, Ezra, flying through the heavens?” He said: “Oh, you know, I’d just fly around, touching the stars, doing some work in the stars.” Still up there, balancing his bottom on my feet, he said “One special time, Mom? I saw a star with a HEART on it.” Intrigued, I said “A star with a heart? Really?” He moved his arms slowly, describing it, “Yes, it was a star with a heart…so I flew right up to it, and you know what?!” Captivated, I said “What?!” He said: “It was Araela! And then I kissed that star’s heart that was Araela. And then she knew she was my sister, and we got to be together again!” I laughed with delight at his story, which made me cough, and with my leg muscles finally tiring, I carefully lowered him to the floor, pulling his big starry-boy body onto mine: “You and your sister sure have loved each other for a long time, haven’t you?” “Yep!” he said, and then tackled me, going for my neck with little sweaty-boy fingers. And I felt the mystery of the great myriad of forms This Love takes, through time, over aeons, flying through solar systems, kissing the stars.
